SARGENT, JOHN SINGER . (1856-1925) American painter, and the leading portrait painter of his era. During his career, he created roughly 900 oil paintings and more than 2,000 watercolors, as well as countless sketches and charcoal drawings.

To Charles Furse [1868-1904, Painter] at Camberley, “I have been away for a few days and your letter has been waiting, which I much regret.
