This poem is called "Autumnal Toilette". "Queen Mountain awoke, serene,/ Adored by the wistful plains;/ Her pines were a gown of green,/ Her cataracts, crystal chains./ With maples, vermilion-boughed,/ She tinted her cheeks aglow,/ Then reached for a puff of cloud/ And powdered her face with snow." He writes, "Dear Mr. Roberts, Sorry I cannot remember the number of copies of the first edition. It was published by the Viking Press. There were no earlier books or pamphlets, at least none which were offered for sale. In '25 or '26 a small brochure of "The World Goes Turning" designed by Robert O. Ballon was privately printed for Mr. Ballon in Chicago and sent by him to a list of friends. At about the same time the University of Chicago Press issued a pamphlet, "White Spring Wedding", in connection with the award of the annual Fish Prize. This, however, may possibly have contained some additional material receiving honorable mention in the same contest - I don't remember. Excuse this hasty reply. If I wait until I have pen, ink, paper and the necessary time, all at once, your letter will never be answered. Sincerely yours," and signed in full, "George Dillon". In very good condition.
