A.L.S.,  reads, “Attached list of magazines and books in which Eggeling was reproduced…The upper drawing is the one…damaged. The 3 lower ones belong to another work by him. The little red lines left and right indicate the torn paper while was supposed to be repaired….” He writes along the edges of the second side and signs, “H. Richter.” The document begins, “The drawing was reproduced in….” and his list includes place and date. “It might be in a dozen others but I don’t remember anymore….” He continues, “Other work by Eggeling were reproduced in magazines [sic]….” And he makes another list.
RICHTER, HANS . (1888–1976) German painter, graphic artist, avant-gardie artist, experimented with film. While living in New York, Richter directed 2 feature films, Dreams That Money Can Buy and 8 x 8: A Chess Sonata in 8 Movements. Richter was also the author of a first-hand account of the Dada movement titled Dada: Art and Anti-Art, which also included his reflections on the emerging Neo-Dada artworks.

The letter  reads, “ Dear Mr… your letter was forwarded to me, evidently in a most roundabout  way. I am afraid I can’t give you any continuity on the fight to get Siqueiros out of prison. The last I heard was a drive to get the Times ad published in a Mexico City paper. I gathered that enough signers gave permission for their names to be reused enough money was raised and that I was done. I don’t recall, however, who was active in this project. My friend Robert has been involved in the Siqueiros issue more recently than I. He may have more to tell you….” Signed, “Jack Levine”.

Horace turned out a biography on Walt Whitman, one of the transcendalist writers with whom Hartley was so enraptured. "Dear Anne Traubel, I am sending you with these the extra plate out of the El Greco book which we got . I have . lately arrived at the office . I reach here feeling so well and happy - you are health and joy to the tired body and peace to the soul - one grows and blooms in the presence of you - one feels like something big & beautiful when you are around - it is too soon to see the real meaning of this visit to Phila. But I know it is big ." Horace and Anne Traubel's daughter, Gertrude, was a contralto singer in Philadelphia who edited her father's work posthumously. MILLES, CARL. (1875-1955) Swedish sculptor best known for his fountains.Carl Milles sculpted the Poseidon statue in Gothenburg, the Gustaf Vasa statue at the Nordiska museet, the Orfeus group outside the Stockholm Concert Hall and the Folke Filbyter sculpture in Linköping. The letter was featured on a stamp issued in 1975, commemorating the fact that he would have turned a hundred years old that year.

HARTLEY, MARSDEN. (1877-1943) American Modernist painter, poet, and essayist of the early 20th century. Hartley was born in Lewiston, Maine, USA, where his English parents had settled. He began his art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art after the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1892. He was born Edmund Hartley, but chose to take on his step-mother's maiden name, Marsden, as his first name.
