Concerned about "royalties for the production of Porgy,” Heyward writes, “Mr. Heyward and I have just received checks from the Century Company for forty-five dollars each, which represents one half of the royalties for the production of “Porgy” by University of Nebraska Players. The matter of the “Porgy” contract was recently gone over in your office, chiefly. I think, by Miss Wood, and also by the Dramatists Guild. Their interpretation was that the Theatre Guilds rights in stock productions of “Porgy” terminated in January 1933. In that case the paying of one half the royalties to the Theatre Guild would have been an error. Would you kindly look into and adjust this matter for us….” Signed, ”Dorothy Heyward.” Pencil docketing in the margins and slight tear at top margin.
