Fairbanks. (born Douglas Elton Thomas Ullman 1883 – 1939) American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer; founding member of United Artists and also a founding member of The Motion Picture Academy. He hosted the first Oscars Ceremony in 1929. Pickford( born Gladys Louise Smith 1892 –1979), known professionally as Mary Pickford, Canadian-American film actress, writer, director and producer; co-founder of United Artists studio with Douglas Fairbanks. D. W. Griffith and Charlie Chapiln, and one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Fairbanks and Pickford married in 1920 and divorced in 1936. Fairbanks was known as the "King of Hollywood" a title passed on to Clark Gable.
