"Floating Bear" Collection of 19 separate issues includes #9 signed by William Burroughs. Issue #9 is considered the most famous of the run because it includes Burroughs' article, "Roosevelt after Inauguration." Two issues of #23 brings total number of issues in the collection to 20. Issue numbers with typed page of journal as cover: 3,9,10,12,13,18,19,20,21,22,23 (2 copies). The following issues include illustrated covers: 28,29,30,31,33,34,35,36,37. Issue #34 includes a poem by Philip Lamantia and a story by Johannes Koenig. We include as separate sheets, the typed poem signed by Philip Lamantia on onion skin paper, and the typed article signed by Koenig. Each issue is comprised of copied typed pages of heavy stock paper, two-sided, stapled together.
In 1961, di Prima and Amiri Baraka (then LeRoi Jones) began a monthly poetry journal, "Floating Bear," featuring Beat poetry including their own. "Floating Bear" continued with Di Prima as editor until 1969 when the publication ended, with a total run of 37 issues or 38 if Intrepid 20 is included. Baraka left in 1963. Condition: all pages in all issues in tact and in good to very good condition. A substantial collection of Di Prima's Beat journal.
