American journalist known for her investigative reporting of inhumane conditions in an insane asylum as well as her race around the world in 72 days, beating the 80 day record! Albumen print on photographer’s mount, H. J. Meyers, New York, noting “Copyright 1890.” Biographic docketing on verso with newspaper obituary attached. $200 SOLD- [George Eliot [Marian Evans Lewes] (1819-1880). One of the leading writers of the Victorian era, known for novels, “Silas Marner” and “Middlemarch.” A albumen print on photographer’s mat, London Stereoscopic Co. $250 Helen Keller (1881-1968). Prolific American author, political activist and advocate for the blind. AND Anne Sullivan, (1866 - 1936) Helen Keller’s teacher and lifelong companion. A pair of sepia prints on photographer’s mount, Collins, Photo, “Huntsville, ALA” docketed on verso “Aug. 1887,” the year Anne Sullivan came to work with Keller. “Not to be used,” is also docketed under the date on verso of each image. Mounting remnants apparent on both photographs. $650 Lillie Langtry *1853-1929) British born actress and socilaite. Albumen photograph on photographer’s mount, Newsboy, New York. $150 Harriet Beecher Stowe with grandson Freeman Allen. (1811-96) American abolitionist and novelist, known for "Uncle Tom's Cabin" (1852). Albumen photograph on photographer’s mount, Hastings, Boston. Rules of reproducing the photograph stamped on verso with cropping notation in pencil. $450 Queen Victoria with great grandson, King Edward VIII, as a child. Victoria (1819-1901) Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, (1837-1901), and Empress of India, (1876-1901). Albumen print on photographer’s mount, Hughes & Mullins. Docketing on verso states the photograph was taken at “Osborne House, July 1897.” Repair to a break in the mount just below the left lower corner of the image, about one inch diagonal away from the photograph. $350 All photographs are in good condition.
