Under his printed name in French, "Mr. Ingres Member of the Institute," Ingres writes to Mrs. Vinit expressing his sympathy. Unsigned. His card measures 3 x 1.5 inches. Condition: on verso along one side is binding remnant; card has protective seal and printing is somewhat faded. Ingres is regarded as a precursor of modern art because of his expressive distortions of form and space and generally associated with Neo-classicism. By the end of his life his portraits were recognized as his greatest legacy.
