Self Portrait Sketch Signed on a 4 x 6 inch card. HARVEY KURTZMAN.
HARVEY KURTZMAN

(1924-83) American cartoonist and editor best remembered for creating "Mad" magazine (1952).

Self Portrait Sketch Signed on a 4 x 6 inch card.

In our pen and ink sketch, Kurtzman drew himself exclaiming, "Sorry - No pictures! No autographs." He signed, "H. Kurtzman" turning the last three letters of his name into a rebus. A charming and funny drawing, though not a unique signature for Kurtzman.

Kurtzman founded "Mad" with publisher William Gaines first as a comic book then as a magazine. Founded in 1952, "Mad" ceased publication in 2018. Kurtzman went on to illustrate the "Little Annie Fanny" comic strips for "Playboy" magazine until 1988.
