(1844-1930). American chemist and reformer. Instrumental in securing passage of the Food and Drug Act by the U.S. Congress (1906). Director of Bureau of Foods, Sanitation, and Health at 'Good Housekeeping' magazine form 1912-30.

This is a sepia-tone photograph of the famed food reformer, 3/4-length, seated in a wooden armed chair, looking at the camera. Signed in older age, "Harvey W. Wiley, 1926." On verso, remnants from prior mounting on and biographical notes in pencil. Small chip in upper left corner.
